Join a Year-long "Standing Committee"

Do you feel passionate about social justice education? Do you have a particular skill set or talent that may align with one of our committees? Please contact esj.stl@gmail.com if you are interested in joining a year-long ESJ Committee!

Responsibilities
Event Planning
  • Imagines the growth, development & power of the organization
  • Reviews feedback forms from the year before
  • Envisions future events and ensures that event planning continues through the ye
Fundraising
  • Fundraising planning/events  
  • Sponsorship Communication 
  • Present financial recommendations to the Board and committees​
Communications
  • Focuses on growing recognition for ESJ, social justice education, and related projects.
  • Maintains ESJ’s website
  • Updates social networking resources
  • Develops and updates ESJ online calendar
  • Creates archive of photos and videos to promote ESJ and our conference
  • Sends out Listserv emails & updates Listserv database
  • Checks & responds to ESJ email​
  • Creates and coordinates social media content
Professional Development
  • Imagines and organizes the Professional Development needs of the ESJ network according to relevant educational issues. 
  • Cultivates Inquiry to Action Group proposals, book clubs, speaker series, film screenings, and other ESJ activities and events.
  • Organizes ESJ Grant
  • Organizes Racial Equity Curriculum Partners/ School-to-Prison Pipeline and other initiatives like this​
Team Building
  • Recruits & retains membership, Board members, Interns, through emails, 1:1 meetings, phone conversations, etc. to educate people about ESJ events and encourage them to participate.
  • Develops partnerships that can serve the development of ESJ by connecting our local efforts with national efforts (e.g. synthesizing “Alliance in Education Organizing” updates, serving as a liaison on the national Teacher Activist Group, Free Minds/Free people, connecting regularly with Rethinking Schools).
  • When issues arise across the country or world, this committee would convey ESJ’s sentiments concerning pressing issues (through endorsement, critique, or public statement).
Annual Conference
  • Reviews conference feedback forms from the year before
  • Envisions future conferences and ensures that conference planning continues through the year
  • Leads conference meetings or delegates conference meeting leadership
  • Checks in on & supports conference committee leaders
