"Recover, Reset, Rethink: Paving a New Road
Towards Justice"
July 15-17 2021
What we have lived through during the last year has been difficult for all of us. We have suffered personal losses, job insecurity, financial concerns, constant stress, political upheaval, and the ever-present threat of getting sick or infecting others. Teachers and students have been uniquely impacted by the pandemic, and we all have done our best to serve our students while trying to take care of ourselves and our families. We have made it this far even with all these challenges, and we at ESJ want to honor the resilience that got us here. Although we are far from normal, it is time to let some hope in so that we can reset and begin to recover. We are one year wiser, stronger, and acutely aware of the inequities in our schools. Let's use our experiences to rethink our approach to equitable practices in education so that we can pave a new road towards justice.

TestimoniesOn the day of the conference, I felt a vast sense of accomplishment at being part of something that involved nearly 400 teachers... I knew for some what they heard at the conference would change them, open them to new ideas and strengthen their resolve to work for social justice by being with like-minded others. Through them I felt like I was touching the lives of many students. The people of the planning committee were all extremely busy like I am in my work and studies, but they all found time to create this conference. They inspired me to make time to work for positive change beyond the walls of my own classroom.
