Inquiry to Action Groups
(ItAGs)
What is an ItAG?
An ItAG is a study group that comes together around a social justice issue or topic. ItAGS are usually small groups of educators, parents, students, activists, teaching artists, and community members. The goal of the ItAGs is to pursue a common inquiry on a social justice topic and create an action around this area of study. The group decides the focus and structure of the meetings. |

How does an ItAG work?
Most ItAGs run 4-6 sessions to give people a chance to inquire into an issue/topic and plan action steps. The facilitator/group decides when the ItAG will be held and where. ESJ promotes the event through our listserv, website, Facebook, Twitter and Meet-Up sites. ItAGs could be a hybrid design of meeting online and face-to-face. We encourage ItAGs to share their learning and actions at the annual Educating for Change Curriculum conference.
What are typical topics?
We welcome topics that explore social justice issues related to education. ESJ has offered a number of ItAGs in the past including:
What support will ESJ offer?
ESJ has a short “facilitator’s guide” that can be provided to ItAG facilitators. ESJ can also offer $50 toward the cost of refreshments, copies, etc. Reimbursement will be made at the end of the ItAG session when facilitators submit receipts. We will also promote the ItAG through our listserv, website, Facebook, Twitter and Meet-Up sites.
